Gutters catch rain from the roof and send it down the downspouts and away from the house. When leaves, pine needles and seed pods pile up, water has nowhere to go. It spills over the edge, runs down the walls and pools by the foundation. Many yards around Chattanooga, Signal Mountain and Hixson have lots of mature trees, so gutters there can fill up quickly in the fall.
Gutter cleaning is a paid add-on from Fortress Home Services. We scoop out the debris, flush the gutters and downspouts with water, and check that water runs where it should. We bag the mess and tidy the ground below. If we spot loose hangers or a sagging run, we will show you in photos. We do not do roof repair, and yard drainage problems are outside what we do.
Signs your gutters are clogged
- Water spilling over the gutter edge during rain
- Plants or small seedlings growing in the gutter
- Gutters that sag or pull away from the house
- Streaks on the outside walls below the gutters
- Puddles or washed-out soil next to the foundation
- A downspout that drips instead of flowing
What a gutter cleaning includes
- Set ladders with care and keep them off plants and beds
- Hand-scoop leaves and debris from every run
- Flush gutters and downspouts with water to check flow
- Clear simple downspout clogs we can reach
- Bag debris and clean up the ground below
- Take photos of anything that looks loose or damaged
What happens when gutters stay full
Clogged gutters cause slow problems that are easy to miss. Overflow can soak the wood board behind the gutter, called fascia, and lead to rot. Water dumped right next to the house can wash away soil, soak a crawlspace or basement, and stain walls. In freezing weather, standing water in a gutter can turn to ice and add weight.
Most homes need their gutters cleaned at least once a year, and more often under lots of shade trees. Late fall, after most leaves drop, is a common time. A spring cleaning can help too, once seeds and blossoms come down. Chattanooga gets plenty of rain spread through the year, so gutters that drain well matter here. Keeping them clear is one of the easier ways to keep water where it belongs.
Fall Prep visits include a look over your gutters, so you will know when they need cleaning. The cleaning itself is not part of the 2-hour visit. It is a separate add-on, quoted for your home, and Quarter Round Plan members get 10% off. Non-members can ask for a quote as well. The price depends on things like the size of the house and how many stories it has.
Gutter cleaning questions
Is gutter cleaning included in the membership?
No. The Fall Prep visit includes a look at your gutters and a note in your photo report on what we see. Cleaning them is a paid add-on because it takes ladders, time and cleanup beyond a normal visit. Members get 10% off the quoted price, and it can be booked on its own day.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
A common rule is at least once a year, often in late fall. Homes under oaks, maples or pines may need it two or more times a year. If you see water pouring over the edge in a normal rain, or plants sprouting up top, it is time. After the first cleaning, we can help you figure out a rhythm that fits your yard.
Do you repair or replace gutters?
We can look at small fixes, like reattaching a loose hanger, as part of a project quote. We do not do roofing, and full gutter replacement is outside what we offer. If we find damage that needs a gutter specialist or a roofer, we will show you photos and let you know what we saw.
