You know your home well. You've kept it up for years. But some jobs just aren't worth climbing a ladder for anymore. The bulb in the tall ceiling. The smoke detector that chirps at 2 a.m. The air filter you have to reach overhead to change.
Fortress Home Services offers home maintenance for older homeowners and retirees who would rather hand those jobs off. A friendly crew in uniform comes to your home four times a year. They work through the seasonal checklist, then turn to your own list of small fixes. Afterward, you get a photo report showing what was done, and you can pass it along to family if you like. It means one company to call for the small stuff, instead of hunting for help each time something comes up.
Ladder jobs and small fixes we take on
- Changing high and hard-to-reach light bulbs
- Replacing smoke detector batteries
- Changing air filters
- Adjusting doors that stick or are hard to close
- Fixing cabinet doors and loose knobs
- Re-caulking around the tub and shower
- Weatherstripping drafty doors
- Hanging pictures, shelves and curtain rods
A steady routine, without the ladder
The Quarter Round Plan is a simple routine. It costs $60 a month or $179 a quarter, and our crew visits once each season. Every visit is two hours of labor. We start with the season's checklist and take care of the ladder jobs on your list. The rest of the time goes to the fixes you've saved up.
If you'd like to meet us first, the $59 Fix-It Hour is a good way to start. You get an hour of small fixes and a full-home checklist with photos, and there's no commitment. Join within 7 days and we credit the $59 to your first month. Our crew wears booties over their shoes and puts down drop cloths to keep your floors clean.
What we leave to other pros
We don't install grab bars or ramps, and we don't do accessibility remodels or structural work. We also don't handle electrical, plumbing, HVAC or roofing. For those jobs, please call a licensed pro. If you're not sure whether something fits, ask us and we'll give you a straight answer.

Common questions
Is Fortress a handyman for seniors?
It's a handyman membership open to anyone, and it works well for older homeowners and retirees. Many of the jobs that get harder over time, like ladder work, tight doors and small repairs, are what our visits are for. You stay in charge of your list. We just do the climbing and fixing.
Do you install grab bars or other accessibility items?
No, that's not something we do. Grab bars, ramps and accessibility remodels need a contractor who focuses on that kind of work. Our visits are for small fixes and upkeep, like bulbs, batteries, filters, caulk, doors and hardware. If you need one of those bigger jobs, we're glad to tell you so plainly.
What if something needs fixing between visits?
If something can't wait for the next season, you can book an extra visit. It costs $149 and includes up to one hour of work, plus materials. Anything bigger goes on a quote, and members save 10% on projects. You can also save smaller items for your next seasonal visit.
